A painting inspired by the Shakespeare play. The lovers meet and fall in love in the foreground, the tree of emotion bending the fated pair towards each other. In the distance, the crossed flowers (carnations) show their ultimate connection, and in the grass of the lower left corner, the couple can be seen entwined. Note the R J carved into the tree. Fate intervened however, and the storm of their families conflict rages to the left. The lovers are cast asunder, the flowers part. On the far right, the graves of the couple point to the end, as on the left an egg leads us over the hills to a distant heaven.
The frame is custom made, as in many of my works. Here I stained the wooden inner frame in many transparent layers of solvent-based stain, stencilled with love hearts.
