The second movement in the series the artist calls The Resurrection Sonata, following Improvisation On A Theme of Toad, this painting shifts into a quieter, more contemplative register. Like an adagio in music, it unfolds slowly, guided by tone and atmosphere rather than narrative clarity.
Echoes of Nikiphoros Lytras’ Antigone in front of the dead Polynices reappear, now interwoven with the spectral presence of silent film actress Gwili Andre. These figures drift through the composition not as fixed subjects, but as recurring motifs—transformed, dissolved, and reassembled within a dreamlike space.
As with the first piece, the painting was created without preliminary sketches or rigid planning. Instead, it emerged through a process akin to musical improvisation: gestures layered in the moment, guided by instinct, rhythm, and emotional resonance. The result is less a constructed image than a visual meditation—an interplay of yellow and blue that suggests harmony, tension, and quiet introspection.
