Michael John Ashcroft ROI MAFA

British Contemporary Landscape/Cityscape Artist

A Life in Paint and Passion:

Born in 1969 in the village of Croston, Lancashire, Michael John Ashcroft developed an interest in art that would eventually shape his life. However, his path to becoming a full-time artist was not immediate. After leaving school in 1985, he pursued a career in engineering, a profession that provided stability but left little room for creative expression. Despite this, he continued to paint in his spare time, gradually refining his skills and developing a passion for capturing the world around him.

In 1998, Michael underwent major surgery for a brain tumor—an experience that profoundly changed his perspective. It was during this time that he made the decision to fully commit to art. He enrolled in various courses, including A-Level Fine Art, to further develop his technique and artistic voice.

His early works explored abstract acrylics, but he soon found his true calling in oil painting. His ability to depict the atmosphere and character of both urban and rural landscapes became a defining feature of his style. Over time, his work gained recognition, leading to a significant milestone in 2015 when he was selected to exhibit at the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London.

Michael’s reputation continued to grow, earning him membership in the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI) and the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts (MAFA). His work has been exhibited at the Mall Galleries, and he was featured on the BBC2 art program Show Me The Monet, standing out among thousands of applicants.

Today, Michael John Ashcroft is recognised for his evocative landscapes and cityscapes, celebrated by collectors and art enthusiasts across the UK and beyond. His journey - from engineering to professional artistry - is a testament to his resilience, passion, and dedication to his craft.
