British artist Mary Shaw was born in Bristol, where she continues to live and work. Entirely self-taught, she demonstrated a natural talent for painting from an early age, receiving her first commission at just thirteen. After spending four years living in Zimbabwe and Cape Town, where she began establishing herself professionally as an artist, Mary returned to the UK with a renewed appreciation for the beauty of the English countryside.
Her paintings celebrate the delicate beauty of nature, particularly wildflowers, meadow grasses and the wildlife found among England’s hedgerows. Combining loosely painted organic forms with areas of exquisite detail, her distinctive style captures the movement and tranquillity of the natural world. The addition of diamond dust lends many of her works a subtle, iridescent sparkle, bringing a contemporary touch to traditional countryside subjects.
Mary has exhibited extensively throughout the UK, and her work is enjoyed by collectors internationally, reflecting the enduring appeal of her enchanting interpretations of the natural world.
