Amanda Horvath

We have the please of announcing that a new collection of original abstract paintings by renowned British artist Amanda Horvath is now available at our gallery.

Amanda Horvath is a contemporary artist celebrated for her vibrant, colourful, and highly textured original paintings. She earned a BA Hons (1st class) in fine art from Sheffield Hallam University and subsequently lectured in colleges. Now practicing full-time, Amanda works from her studio in the Peak District, where she lives with her husband.

Amanda's paintings are inspired by peaceful places and tranquil woodlands, aiming to create uplifting works that evoke feelings of optimism and freshness. She captures the spirit of these serene environments, drawing inspiration from ethereal light and dramatic contrasting shadows. Her passion lies in expressing nature through beautiful colours, imparting a sense of calm. This deep connection with nature has been nurtured since her early childhood and past experiences.

Working from direct observation, Amanda often begins her canvases en plein air, completing them in her studio. She employs optical mixing techniques reminiscent of the impressionists, utilizing a combination of impasto, scumbling, and glazing. Her expressive approach with acrylics or oils, using palette knives and various mark-making techniques, results in spontaneous and fresh compositions that naturally evolve. Her works exist in a space between abstraction and realism, originating from real locations and nearby woods, and are further developed through photographs, drawings, memory, and imagination.

We invite art enthusiasts and collectors to visit our gallery to experience Amanda Horvath's captivating works firsthand. For inquiries or to schedule a private viewing, please contact us at 01565 758744
