Steve Williams has undergone a remarkable transformation - from commercial professional to celebrated sculptor - driven by a lifelong artistic impulse and a deep connection to stone carving.

Based in Stockport, Cheshire, Steve’s journey into full-time art practice began relatively late in life but has been marked by rapid growth, dedication, and fearless experimentation. His self-taught approach is complemented by intensive residencies and workshops that have refined his skills and expanded his conceptual reach.

Working primarily in stone, he creates pieces that range from highly abstract forms to expressive portraiture, often reflecting themes of erosion, growth, and transformation. His practice also includes wood, painting, digital media, and photography, revealing a restless creativity and broad visual language.

As co-owner of The Sculpture Gallery in Leeds and a regular contributor to exhibitions across the North of England, Steve plays an active role in shaping and supporting the region’s contemporary art scene.
