a distinctive voice rooted in symbolism, psychological nuance and a subtle surreal sensibility
Mark Sheeky (b. 1972, Cheshire, UK) is a multidisciplinary British artist whose richly imaginative work encompasses oil painting, music, writing and performance. After an early career in computer game design, Sheeky dedicated himself to the visual arts in the mid-2000s, developing a distinctive voice rooted in symbolism, psychological nuance and a subtle surreal sensibility. His paintings often evoke introspective worlds and enigmatic narratives, drawing viewers into a dialogue between image and emotion. Sheeky’s work is represented in public and private collections, including a painting held in the UK National Art Collection, and he has received numerous awards in open and juried exhibitions.
Sheeky has exhibited extensively throughout the UK since 2007, participating in over 200 exhibitions in both solo and group contexts. His work has been shown at major venues such as the Royal West of England Academy (Bristol), The Mall Galleries (London), RBSA Gallery (Birmingham) and The Lowry (Manchester), among many other national juried exhibitions. He has also mounted numerous solo exhibitions—including Neorenaissance at Nantwich Museum—and curated group shows that explore the interplay of visual art, poetry and sound.
Beyond painting, Sheeky is a prolific composer, pianist and author, and often brings these disciplines into collaborative performance projects that enrich the experience of his exhibitions. His practice reflects a holistic view of creativity, one that continually seeks to transcend the boundaries between traditional media and contemporary artistic expression.
Mark is also a talented software programmer and games designer, published through his company, Cornutopia Software. His titles can be browsed on the steam platform here.
