visual narratives that reflect on identity, technological change, and the transformation of human societies
Leonardo Passeri (b. 1982, Assisi, Italy) is a contemporary Italian artist whose work explores the intersection of symbolism, speculative narratives, and the evolving relationship between humanity, culture, and technology. He lives and works in Umbria, where his studio and exhibition space are located in Brufa di Torgiano near Perugia. Passeri’s artistic path developed through both local cultural influences and international study, including time spent in London at Central Saint Martins, where exposure to contemporary theory, experimental practices, and diverse artistic movements helped shape the conceptual foundations of his work.
Passeri’s practice centers primarily on painting, with many of his works created using acrylic and enamel on panel. His compositions are characterized by vivid color, precise lines, and carefully constructed pictorial spaces that combine figurative suggestion with abstract structure. Through recurring motifs - such as symbolic figures, hybrid forms, and imagined landscapes - he constructs visual narratives that reflect on identity, technological change, and the transformation of human societies. His paintings often function as speculative scenes in which past, present, and possible futures converge.
Working in thematic series, Passeri develops interconnected bodies of work that investigate different aspects of these ideas. Projects such as Urbenica, Ab Origine, and Fashion TEC.me reveal his interest in architecture, myth, natural systems, and the structural languages of design. Across these series, his work maintains a distinctive balance between conceptual inquiry and strong visual impact, inviting viewers to enter layered environments where symbolic imagery and contemporary concerns meet. Through this evolving practice, Leonardo Passeri continues to build a unique artistic language that reflects on the complexities of modern life while imagining new cultural and visual possibilities.
Passeri’s work has been presented in a range of exhibitions and cultural events in Italy and abroad. Notable presentations include participation in “Visionaries and the Art of Performance” at the Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi in 2019, where his work was exhibited as part of a program organized by the Sir Denis Mahon Foundation. His paintings have also appeared in exhibitions such as “Visions and Visionaries” at the Guildhall Art Gallery in London (2018–2019) and “Techno Medioevo – Age of Future Reloaded” at the Museum of the Order of St John in 2018. Earlier exhibitions include presentations connected with Umbria Jazz in Perugia (2017), the solo exhibition Fashion TEC.me in Perugia (2017), Ab Origine at Artemisia Art Gallery in Perugia (2015), and I Giardini di Marte at Palazzo del Podestà in Città di Castello (2014). Through these exhibitions, Passeri’s work has reached audiences across Italy and the United Kingdom, reflecting the growing international interest in his visionary and symbolically driven practice.
