JO QUIGLEY
Contemporary urban figurative artist | Woking, Surrey, England
Jo Quigley is a British painter living near Woking in Surrey. With a background in Fine Art—holding a BA from Winchester School of Art and a master's degree from Kingston University—she transitioned from a decade-long teaching career to painting full-time in her home studio. Her work is inspired by the dynamic energy of urban life, particularly scenes observed in and around London. Her paintings often feature people going about their day, capturing the fleeting moments of movement, sunlight, and shadow that define life in the city.
Her style combines a modern realist approach with impressionistic influences, using acrylics to produce vivid, fast-drying compositions. Quigley is particularly drawn to the patterns formed by crowds and the atmospheric impact of light, especially long shadows cast in public spaces. While each scene is grounded in realism, the focus on structure and composition lends her work a thoughtful, almost abstract quality. Her paintings have been recognized in several national and international exhibitions, reflecting both her technical skill and her keen observational eye.
