Dimitar Hinkov

Dimitar Hinkov, born in 1972, is a distinguished contemporary artist and academic residing in Germany. With an impressive record of over 50 solo exhibitions and 70 group exhibitions globally, Hinkov has established a significant presence in the international art scene. He holds a PhD in Art, which complements his practical expertise with a profound theoretical foundation.

 

Hinkov is a third-generation artist. His early immersion in the art world, spending much of his childhood in artists’ studios and galleries, laid the foundation for his artistic career. His fascination with art began in his grandfather’s atelier, where he made his first artistic attempts at the tender age of four. This early exposure instilled in him a deep and enduring passion for the creative process.

 

For the past 25 years, Hinkov has been dedicated to experimenting with various materials, including acrylic, oil, pigment, resin, and structural elements, applied to different bases such as canvas and metal. His technique draws inspiration from the ancient Encaustic method, characterized by the application of multiple layers. Each layer in Hinkov’s work carries its own unique atmosphere, emotion, and vitality, contributing to a painting that invites viewers to explore its depth and construct their own narratives.

 

Hinkov’s work bridges the gap between classical figuration and modern abstraction. His portrayal of faces often approaches realism but with subtle deconstructions that add a layer of intrigue and complexity.
