Artist's Statement

 

"Following on from the example of 'Futurist' painters such as Severini, Duchamp and Malevich, the use of sequential photography has helped me in my painting to deconstruct what the human eye takes for granted every day."

 

"Inspired by my graphic design/illustration background, I have also introduced text into the fabric of my work, whilst acting as a spacial device within the composition, it also has the effect of focusing the viewers mind on the subject matter or indeed in some cases drawing it away, providing cryptic juxtapositions. The use of text also betrays the influence of Pop Art on my painting. This is also evident in the use of strong, primary colouring."

 

"I have tended to use the more extreme, dynamic forms of movement as my subject matter. Sporting endeavour and the rhythm of the dance are notable examples of subjects which create arresting images, whilst also providing an emotional hook for the viewer."

 

 

A Multi-talented Artist

 

David Boardman is also a seasoned singer-songwriter and guitar teacher and founded the band "Fine Lines" in 2016, delivering a rich blend of roots-infused Americana, country, and folk-rock. He subsequently formed a creative partnership with broadcaster, writer, and musician Mark Radcliffe after Mark moved to Knutsford, and together they began co-writing songs for David’s band, which naturally led to the formation of an acoustic duo.

 

Drawing inspiration from the harmonies of The Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel, as well as modern acts like The Milk Carton Kids, their music showcases the elegant simplicity of two guitars and two voices. United by a love of Western Swing and classic country, particularly the songs of Hank Williams, they blend original material with carefully chosen covers. Known informally as The Long Ridge Riders, their performances radiate a warm, country-tinged charm.
