Romanticism, a movement that began in Europe towards the late 18th century, continues to have a presence in the art world today. The work of contemporary Russian artist Anna Razumovskaya is a testament to this, as she captures the essence of Renaissance portraiture while infusing it with a modern twist.

Known for its focus on emotion and expressive brushwork, Romanticism often features varied subject matter such as landscapes, religious themes, and portraits. Razumovskaya's dynamic paintings, with their vibrant colours and loose brushstrokes, embody the same expressive qualities in her pieces which elegantly portray the female form, celebrating both modern freedom and grace.

Growing up during the Cold War, Razumovskaya was influenced by the contrasting worlds of a restrictive communist society and the stylish femininity of her fashion-conscious mother. Her beautiful figurative paintings reflect this blend, showcasing not only a strong sense of femininity but also a passion for creativity and expression in both art and music. Many of her works feature women in motion, often dancing or playing string instruments.

With classical training from the Russian State University for Arts, Razumovskaya has honed her unique style, blending traditional Renaissance techniques with abstract elements and a striking use of colour. This combination of classical and contemporary has distinguished her in the modern art scene, allowing her to exhibit globally, including at prominent venues like Artexpo New York.
